Sud is a department on Haiti's southern peninsula, with a tropical climate that stays hot year-round (80-90°F / 27-32°C). It's famous for the colonial town of Jacmel, whose 19th-century ironwork buildings and Carnival masks draw visitors, and for the white-sand beaches of Île à Vache. During the dry season from November to March, you can snorkel in the turquoise Caribbean waters off Île à Vache, while the rainy months (April to October) bring lush green hiking trails in Pic Macaya National Park, and cheaper lodging in Jacmel.
