Kruger National Park is a massive wildlife reserve in northeastern South Africa with a subtropical climate, where winter temperatures range from 50°F to 80°F (10°C to 27°C) and summer temperatures average 77°F to 95°F (25°C to 35°C). It's famous for the Big Five-lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo-and offers self-drive safaris on paved roads, guided game drives, and bush walks during the dry winter months (May to September) when animals gather at waterholes like those along the Sabie River. In the wet summer season (October to April), you can spot over 500 bird species along the Olifants River, though thick vegetation makes wildlife viewing trickier; the park's southern section near Skukuza Rest Camp is best for first-timers due to higher animal density, while the northern region near Punda Maria is quieter and ideal for seasoned safari-goers.
