Savinjska is a region in eastern Slovenia, with a continental climate that brings warm summers (often above 80°F / 27°C) and snowy winters (down to 25°F / -4°C). It's famous for the Logar Valley's Alpine meadows, the Savinja River's rapids, and the medieval Celje Castle overlooking the city. In summer, you can raft the Savinja's Class III-to-IV rapids or hike to Rinka Falls; in winter, hit the ski slopes at nearby Kope or soak in the 36°C (97°F) thermal pools at Rimske Terme. The region also hosts the annual Celje Castle Festival in July with live medieval-themed music and jousting reenactments.
